FAQs for Tutoring Mackay
If your child is willing to work hard, welcome feedback, and ask for help when needed – then yes, tutoring will help your child improve. A review of research confirmed that one-on-one tutoring helps school students. For more, see Why Tutoring Works!
We care about helping all school students improve regardless of their needs. But for tutoring to work, students should attend regularly, pay attention, work hard and complete short HW tasks.
Our services are not suited to help students with cramming or assignment writing at the last minute.
One-on-one tutoring is more flexible and personal. School students who work with a tutor develop confidence in their ability to succeed, which motivates them to try harder.
The big advantage of tutoring is that our work is tailored to your child’s needs. But it always involves at least one 55-minute session + 10-15 minutes of work for students before the next session.
Within the 55-minute session, we explain things, answer questions, get your child to practise things, give them rapid feedback, and get them to act on it. We also teach them effective learning strategies.
Each session costs $100. You also pay a textbook and setup fee, which varies by subject and year level.
We offer face-to-face tutoring sessions for school students in the Mackay CBD and Zoom sessions, although Zoom sessions are not suitable for all students.
As your child is assigned a set time each week, this prevents us from offering that place to other students. Therefore, we still charge you for the session.
However, we do offer catch-up Zoom sessions each Sunday. Sometimes, we have spare face-to-face slots your child can attend instead.
Your child must bring a device such as a laptop or a tablet. Most students will need an online textbook, which they will access through their device.
They will also need a dedicated book and a pen or pencil to do their work.
School students who want help with assignments or assessment tasks must bring copies of their assigned tasks.
We do not do these tasks for students; we teach them how to do them.

Why do some children fail at school? To some, failure is a dirty word, but I believe if we are not bluntly honest about things – we can’t fix them.
